On January 12, 2010, the Republic of Haiti was struck by a 7.0 magnitude earthquake. This natural disaster claimed several hundred thousand lives and displaced many more. While Haiti continues to progress, we must never forget those who perished.

In commemoration of the 8th anniversary of the earthquake, the Embassy of Haiti in Washington, DC will observe a moment of silence. We encourage Friends of Haiti to join us as we honor the lives lost by pausing in silence wherever they are for one minute promptly at 4:53 p.m. on Friday, January 12, 2018.
