The Embassy of Haiti in the United States of America is pleased to announce the launch of a contest entitled: “Sculpture Contest of the Heroes of Independence”. This competition aims to promote Haitian culture through its history and to acquire seven (7) sculptures of the Heroes and Heroines, founders of the Republic for a permanent exhibit at the Embassy.
Interested artists will have to produce sculptures of:
– Jean Jacques Dessalines, a 6-foot sculpture that will be displayed outside the Embassy.
– Busts of Sanite Belair, Catherine Flon, Marie Jeanne Lamartinière, Toussaint Louverture, Henry Christophe, Alexandre Pétion.
The rules of participation are as follows:
- The free contest is open to all Haitian and foreign sculptors.
- The contest is open until August 2, 2020.
- The sculptor presents photos of his creations for a first sorting.
- A selection jury composed of artists, art connoisseurs and representatives of the Embassy will choose the five best artists.
- The choice will be based on the originality of the pieces presented, the finish and the material used.
- An amount of $500 will be advanced for the realization of the scale models.
- The five finalists will have two months to submit the model.
- The choice of the final pieces will be based on the same criteria as in point 5.
- The winners will be informed individually by e-mail.
- The Embassy will negotiate the prize for the best model presented for each hero.
- Sculptures can be made in bronze, reinforced concrete, copper or fiberglass.
- All the sculptures must be sent to the Embassy no later than 30 April 2021.
- Participation in this competition implies the total and unreserved acceptance of these rules.

- Un jury de sélection composé d’artistes, de connaisseurs en matière d’art et de représentants de l’Ambassade, choisira les cinq meilleurs artistes.
- Le choix se fera d’après l’originalité des pièces présentées, la finition et la matière travaillée.
- Un montant de $500 sera avancé pour la réalisation des maquettes.
- Les cinq finalistes auront deux mois pour présenter leur maquette.
- Le choix des pièces finales se fera selon les même critères qu’au point 5.
- Les gagnants seront informés individuellement par courrier électronique.
- L’Ambassade négociera le prix de réalisation de la meilleure maquette présentée pour chaque héros.
- Les sculptures pourront être réalisées soit en bronze, béton armé , cuivre, fibre de verre.
- Toutes les sculptures devront être envoyées à l’Ambassade au plus tard le 30 avril 2021.
- La participation à ce concours implique l’acceptation totale et sans réserve du présent règlement.
